Description

A hearty family favorite that can be served alone or with cornbread, pasta, mashed potatoes, and many other ways.

Ingredients

2  lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef

1  large onion, chopped (1 cup) SAVE $

2  cloves garlic, finely chopped ( can use minced garlic also)

1  can (28 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained

1  can (16 oz) chili beans in sauce, undrained

1  can (15 oz) tomato sauce

2  tablespoons chili powder

1 1/2  teaspoons ground cumin

1/2  teaspoon salt

1/2  teaspoon pepper

Directions

In 12-inch skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain.  (The beef does not have to be browned, but it does give a richer flavor to the meat and using flour as you brown the beef will thicken the chili as it cooks

In 4- to 5-quart slow cooker, mix beef, onion and remaining ingredients.

Cover and cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours.
